Superbowl sundae

We thought an ice cream beer float sounded like a good idea and others (notably Mark Dredge and Zak Avery) have raved about it.

As I was staying up to watch the Superbowl, I thought I’d give it a go with two of my favourite American imports, Brooklyn Chocolate Stout and Ben & Jerry’s.

And, do you know what? It was horrid.

The lovely dark chocolate roastiness of the beer became metallic and cheesy. The two ingredients cancelled each other out.

I had to pour it away.

And in what way does this surprise you? Ice cream and beer? Yeuk.

Watch Zak’s video! He enjoyed it a *lot* and he’s a man of taste. You never know until you try, etc. etc. etc.

  3. Tandleman says:

Huh. To paraphrase my old Mum, If Zak stuck his head in a fire, would I?

No-one ever died from eating a disappointing dessert…

Although Telly Savalas did die from eating undercooked pork.

Some wag has changed that on Wikipedia to cancer. You should fix it.

Tandleman, what if he stuck his head in an oversized wineglass?

  7. Bailey says:

I think it was Wikipedia where I read that he’d died of complications arising from trichinosis, but that must have been a malicious plant by the powerful anti-pork lobby which has since been corrected.

IMO, This works better with a beer that is otherwise too sickly sweet to enjoy. Over on this side of the pond, I find that Southern Tier’s Creme Brulee makes a pretty good beer float.

  9. My gran used to make my lemonade sundaes but beer? Please tell me Mr Avery didn’t put ice cream in his wine glass?! I’d better take a look…

Eating an ice cream sandwich whilst drinking ice cold cooking lager is a nice treat on a hot summer day here in the States. Of course it was 100F on the day I first tried it.

  11. I can’t believe you wasted a decent beer like that!
