GALLERY: British Lager

Lager has been part of British beer culture since the 1880s but took a long time to really take off.

I’ve read that British ale wasn’t called “beer” for a while because the former didn’t contain hops. Beer was from the continent, and to drink lagers was unpatriotic. The British used to be quite proud of their bitters.

Yes, the beer (hopped) and ale (unhopped) traditions are distinct, but eventually converged. We’re still quite proud of our bitter!

We’ve got a lager-related project in the early planning stages, hence this gallery….
