Galway Hooker in London

In a comment on our New Year’s wish list Beer Nut has kindly alerted us to the fact that Galway Hooker will be available at the Porterhouse in London’s Covent Garden this week as part of a festival of independent Irish breweries.

We’ll have to give it a go, crowds of Lynx-drenched teenagers nothwithstanding.

On which subject, if any landlords, brewers or boozers want to let us know about interesting beers on offer in London, we’d be grateful.

No, I said keg as the brewer intended. Mind you, the brewer is happy enough to send it out on cask, but I don’t think it works as well. Others (like Dubbel and Stonch IIRC) thought the cask version at the GBBF last year was fine.

We’re not massive fans but, on this occasion, I can put up with a crappy atmosphere to try something new.

I was amused by the press material for the festival (yes, I’m press, dontcherknow) boasting that the Covent Garden branch was London’s second-biggest pub. Wow! It must be good then.

Word of warning, don’t bother going to the Porterhouse today (25th) if you’re hoping to try the Galway Hooker or other festival drinks. Despite some posters saying the festival starts on the 25th, others say the 26th, and I was told by the barman that the guest beers are coming tonight and will be on from tomorrow (26th)

Cheers Dave.

Had a natter with Aidan the Hooker brewer this afternoon, and it will indeed be keg, but it’s not likely to appear anywhere else since the export was handled entirely by the Porterhouse for their exclusive use.

And we won’t be seeing anything much from Hooker on cask for a while since all their casks have been nicked. Who’d be a small brewer, eh?

Thanks for the warning, Dave. I was going to go last night but saw your comment in the nick of time.

In the meantime, anyone want to buy some casks, no questions asked?
