Wow! It is hard to miss the Vittoria on Whiteladies Road. Strangely inviting, despite the warning red.
The Ship Inn, Lower Park Row. Another tatty-looking Star Inns pub, offering discounts for hospital workers and students.
The Scotchman and his Pack, St Michael’s Hill. There is probably a fascinating story behind the name. Either no longer a pub, or being refurbished.
Colston Arms, St Michael’s Hill.
The Robin Hood, St Michael’s Hill. Name carved in stone. Reminded us of the Black Friar in London.
The White Bear, Kingsdown. Lovely cast iron (?) bear on the front of the pub, evoking the Victorian era wonderfully. Also houses a theatre.
The Highbury Vaults.
The Adam and Eve, Hotwells. Poster advertises ‘champion gravy’; Sharp’s Cornish Coaster the only ‘real ale’ when we popped in.
The Merchant’s Arms, Hotwells.
Detail from the side of the Hatchet Arms, Frogmore Street, central Bristol. A listed building apparently popular with ‘alternative’ people. (Whoever they might be.)
The Pineapple, a gay bar. On the plaque over the window the name ‘Courage’ can just be picked out under the paint.
The Horse and Groom, central Bristol, pictured late on Monday night. One old feller chatting to the barman. Edward Hopper?

These are some of the interesting looking pubs we saw but didn’t get chance to drink in on our recent trip to Bristol. Pictures were snapped on a camera phone so aren’t of the highest quality, but you get the idea.
highbury vaults has a lovely wee snug/front bar worth looking at. Beer quality was decent last time in robin hood and friendly landlady. not been in the rest of them though vittoria is on the To Do list.
